Review of the New Olympus 1030

This camera may not seem like anything special. Though it uses an industry standard 3.6x optical zoom with face detection and other standard digital camera features such as digital image stabilization; a 5x digital zoom and 28mm wide-angle lens, this camera's real claim to fame is that it is rugged You almost cannot break it. You can drop it in the pond while kayaking; smash it while rock climbing; freeze it while skiing and it still will not break. In fact, SCUBA divers can take 10.1 megapixel pictures from a depth of up to 33 feet without having to worry about investing in a water-proof housing for the camera. It can also survive a fall from over six feet. Now that is an exceptionally sturdy camera, which is exactly why it is such a great choice for high action sports enthusiasts. It will let you catch all the action without having to constantly worry about protecting the camera.
When you consider all the features you get come at a price of about $350, this is one great 'point and shoot' type camera to have available when the environment may not be suitable for a more delicate unit.
