Review of the Kodak EasyShare M893 IS Compact Digital Camera

If you're looking for a state-of-the-art, cutting edge, digital camera, then you don't need to read any further, this is not the camera for you. However, if you're in the market for a camera that's easy to operate, well-made and which takes fairly decent pictures, even if left only on auto settings, then the Kodak EasyShare M893 IS is an excellent choice.
It comes at a good price and is of an excellent size and weight. Carrying it around all the time to take advantage of those sudden photo opportunities is a breeze and it also has a decent image stabilizer. However, there are some drawbacks to the unit, as it is noisy, the buttons take too long to respond to user input and it also has a poor macro performance.
Despite these criticisms, you're getting a lot of camera for the price. You can't go wrong with this camera if you are someone who is not really serious about photography, but just wants to get some really great pictures at family get-togethers and while on vacation. You would be wise, though, to go through the manual and learn a bit about the various settings, because if you think you'll get great pictures, for example, without using the flash in darker conditions, you will be sorely disappointed.
One of the nice features about this camera is that if you are scrolling through the menu options and come across something you don't understand, you can just hit the telephoto button on the zoom rocker and it will bring up a help screen, giving you a brief explanation about that particular option.
The camera offers a resolution of 8.3 Mp, the lens is an f/2.9-f/5.2, 3x optical zoom, 34-102mm and a shutter speed of 4-1/2000sec. It also comes equipped with image stabilization and a generously sized 2.5inch (230k pixel) LCD screen.
The unit is attractive and is light enough (117g without battery or memory card) to make it easy enough to carry around just about anywhere.
