Review of Martin Bailey Podcasts

It's always wonderful to find someone who is an expert in their field and willing to help others learn their techniques. Such is the case of Tokyo based photographer Martin Bailey who has created a series of over 130 MBP-podcasts. Each offer insights into how his photos were created, along with a discussion of the techniques used. Listeners can simply click on the applicable thumbnail to reference the photos being discussed in each podcast.
The podcasts are free and can be downloaded via iTunes. Bailey does request support for his website from viewers and will gladly accept donations. A website such as this clearly takes a lot of work to maintain.

The only problem I found with these podcasts is that in order to get the most from them, you need to be logged into the website. You need to be able to view the photographs he is discussing in order to appreciate the specific techniques he discusses. If you're like me, and prefer to listen to your podcasts on your iPod while commuting, it can be difficult to stay connected in order to view various photo examples.

The only workaround I've been able to come up with is to download screen shots of Mr. Bailey's work and then print them out on a high quality color laser printer. The prints can then be carried along and viewed while listening to the podcast.

They're definitely worth a listen and there is much to learn from Martin Bailey. The cost, of course, is free, but if you're going to take any serious advantage of this service, I would encourage you to send him a donation towards the continued upkeep of the site. He offers a convenient link on his site allowing you to make a donation and for added convenience, he accepts PayPal.
