Green Bay Press-Gazette's "Meet the Family", a Nice Way to get Readers Acquainted with Each Other

A neat feature that the Green Bay Press-Gazette runs each month is called "Meet the Family" and it's a great way for readers to become acquainted with each other. Each week, the Green Bay Press-Gazette introduces a family living in Northeastern Wisconsin to its readers. Families fill out an online form and submit photos of themselves as well as some biographical information. For its part, the Post-Gazette will select a family each month based on the entries, and take an informal portrait of the family, which will appear in the newspaper and on its website. The photo will also be gifted to the family.
Some of the entries have been truly unique and many have turned out to be readers' close friends, neighbors and sometimes just neat people one would want to get to know better.
For example, a recent feature was on the Wentworths. During the photo shoot in their living room, it was discovered that one of the family's interests was photography. The photographer from the paper homed right in on that and took his photo of one of the Wentworth children, 14 year old Vanessa, taking a photo of her family. That is the photo that ran in the newspaper and on its website the next week.
The "Meet the Family" feature also highlights information about the family, including their hobbies and interests. It provides a bit of information about each family member, including their pets. A look into their outlook on life is included in the feature, such as "We rock because ... we take care of each other and give support" or their advice for keeping families strong? "Put God first!"
This "Meet the Family" feature is a great service the Green Bay Press-Gazette is providing for its readers and is hopefully one that other newspapers across the country will pick up on.
