One of the most prestigious website resources used by photographers, both professional and amateur alike, is BetterPhoto.com. It is considered one of the primary internet destinations for photographers of all types and for that reason when they sponsor a contest, it is usually one that will provide tangible benefits for the winners.

BetterPhoto is hosting two separate contests; one free and one with an entry fee. The free contest offers a prize of a free website to the winners, while the contest with the accompanying entry fee has a first prize of $1,000 and a second prize of $500. Third place winners receive a free "short course" from BetterPhoto.com

Entry fees are very reasonable for the cash prize contest and these range from $4.95 for one photo; $14.95 for up to five photos and $24.95 for ten photos.

BetterPhoto.com states that the key to winning any of their contests will be taking photos that show technical excellence, originality, artistic creativity and a mastery of the tools of the trade. It does not matter what kind of camera equipment you use to shoot the photo and the subject can be just about anything – landscapes; portraits of children; pictures of a favorite pet or just about any other "family friendly" topic you can imagine.

BetterPhoto.com is a website that is bent toward making better photographers out of all of us. Packed with free tips on just about any aspect of photography, the site also serves as a portal for taking almost an unlimited variety of courses on just about any aspect of the photography you can imagine. The site also hosts a rather active community posting to a variety of forums accessible through the main website portal.

Contests occur on a regular basis, especially the ones involving cash prizes. The current one ends on April 30th, but a new one will take its place shortly thereafter.

Not only are participants in both the free and the paid contests eligible for the contest prizes, but all contest entries are also eligible for placement on the cover of the Photographer's Edge catalog. This publication enjoys a circulation of over 70,000 people in the U.S. and Canada. Needless to say, placement of one's work in this publication would be a major boost for any photographer's career hopes.

So, if you are looking for a flexible type contest where you could showcase your best work, think about entering one of Better Photo's challenges. Even if money's tight, the free website offered in the free contest is a useful prize and can be used as a springboard to showcase a budding photographer's best work where the entire world can view and enjoy it.
