Avoid These Common Photography Mistakes

If you are using the flash that is built into your camera to take pictures of people, you will experience the dreaded red eye. This happens because the flash bounces off the back of the subject’s eye and reflects the red from the blood vessels back to the camera. The best way to combat this is to use a flash bracket and connecting cord or a remote flash. If your flash can rotate, try bouncing the light off of the ceiling or a nearby wall.
If you have ever seen a bright circle of light somewhere in your picture, then you have experienced lens flare, another common photography mistake. This happens when the light hits the glass on the lens straight on and bounces around the interior of the lens. Lens flares occur most frequently outside when shooting into the sun, but they can occur indoors when artificial lighting is part of the picture. This causes a reflection that shows up in your picture. A lens hood will help you avoid this. You can shade the picture with your hand or something else you have on hand if you do not have a hood and are shooting into the sun.
Every photographer, even the best professional, will make mistakes. These mistakes are some of the most common. By learning how to avoid them, you can take better photographs and soon become the skilled photographer you want to be.
